Students win $3,250 in cash and prizes


Congrats to our student winners of the 6th Annual OCC Student Essay Competition!

First, second and third place winners were awarded $1,000, $750 and $500, respectively. Five honorable mention winners received OCC Bookstore gift certificates valued at $200 each. Essays were scored by a committee using college writing and critical thinking evaluation rubrics that were developed through previous assessment activities. Sponsored by the OCC Foundation and the Student Outcomes Assessment Committee, the contest was open to all current OCC students.

Students participating in the competition were required to write an essay between 1,000 and 1,250 about the city of Detroit.

This year’s winners are:
1st Place Michael Borst  $1,000
2nd Place Sarah DeLadurantey  $750
3rd  Place Jenna Urbauer  $500

Honorable Mentions, who won book store gift certificates are:

Christi Keaveny
Megan Korenek
Tracy Sorrow
Natalie Wright
